Man...what an experience, a fishing trip with a group of hero's...I was humbled and at the same time, more proud to be an American than ever. The Panhandle Warrior Retreat was the 17th to the 20th and Linda Cope from Panama City organized this event, her son Joshua is the man in the wheelchair in the pictures, he lost both legs and most of his right hand to an IED. It was inspiring and has cemented the charity we will have connected to our fishing tournament next June. We plan to bring this type event to the "forgotten coast" and involve the men and women who have sacrificed the most in the war against terrorism. There will much more details on the Bluewater Charity Classic on-line soon, but in the meantime don't forget there are wounded warriors in every community and much can be done to show your support for all they have given.
Capt Charley Patrocki aboard the Jubilee provided his boat and crew, volunteers from HealthSouth Rehab Center, Panama City Fire Dept and others filled in wherever needed and what a day!! The box was filled with fish and hearts with inspiration at the end of a beautiful day on the Gulf of Mexico. I heard story's from the different soldiers and shared their recounting of the incidents that changed their lives forever. One story recalled how a tin of Copenhagen saved his life, he bent over from his position as turret gunner to retrieve his "dip" and a shell came through his turret and "only" smashed his skull along the back of his head, resulting in permanent brain damage, but he's alive, many of his companion's weren't so "lucky". He carries as positive attitude and has volunteered to help me bring the "forgotten coast warrior weekend" to life, with no regard to his disabilities.
So, in the meantime, don't forget our responsibilities to these returning veterans, "all gave some and some gave all". Look for more photo's in the photo gallery section and tite lines everybody...
