Dodged the rain showers that have blown through today, managed a quick scouting trip late afternoon on the incoming tide….outside air 70.0 water temp up to 72.5 with these last few warm days, forecast is colder by weekend, winds calm.
Worked around some nearshore structure, the bait is thick and the water clear on this high tide….targeting redfish with frozen squid and cigar minnows, no live bait, first stop was another of the MBARA inshore reefs, 5 red snapper with a couple of keeper size, out of season til next April though, but a new spot for them. Moved to a larger piece of structure and first drop with squid produced this 27" redfish, this fish had 2 more that followed him to the surface, so the schools are forming, its mating season!!! This should be a continuing trend as the waters cool and the bait stays close by. I was using a Penn 7500ss spinning reel with a med action rod, a slider rig and a 4/0 circle hook. Try to remember to crimp the barbs on the hooks for an easier release as most of the fish are over the 27” slot and we want to release them healthy. Tight lines !!
